Description of the initiative
The AAB programme's work includes the reinforcement of national capabilities of the member States in biotechnology, including:  the encouragement of the production, distribution and commercialization of biotechnological products in relation to the objectives of sustainable development and the necessity of preserving the environment; and development and harmonization of regulations pertaining to biosafety, bioethics, intellectual property rights, patent rights.  It focuses on several priorities, including:
1) plant biotechnology;
2) human and animal health;
3) animal production;
4) protection and conservation of nature;
5) industrial production; and
6) biodiversity-biosafety-bioethics.

Objectives
